New Orleans Pride 2016
While the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are open to all, the vast majority of members tend to be gay men. So Gay Pride in our respective cities is a High Holiday and we go full out for the festivities. In 2016 the Big Easy Sisters were the Grand Marshals of the Pride Parade. We rode in a truck and tossed beads to the cheering crowds. Other members of the House walked in front of the truck and collected donations which were later given to the Orlando House for the victims and survivors of the Pulse Club massacre. It had been an emotional week, with the Sisters leading a Second Line in memory of the Pulse victims. Before the Parade, the members of the House read the names of each victim. It was a day of many emotions: Sorrow, joy, and Pride.
